Veterinary Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Veterinary acupuncture is a complementary therapy in which thin needles are inserted into specific points on an animal's body to stimulate healing and manage pain. It's a traditional Chinese medicine practice used to treat a variety of conditions and is generally considered to be very safe. Acupuncture with Comfort Veterinary will include aquapuncture which is the use of Vitamin B12 to further stimulate these points. You as owners will also be shown how to provide therapeutic massage to your pets at home.
What kinds of conditions does it treat?
Acupuncture can be used to treat musculoskeletal problems, neurological issues, and gastrointestinal disorders. In Dr Chesney's hands, the most commonly treated conditions are:
- Hip Arthritis
- CCL rupture when surgery is not an option
- Knee Arthritis
- IVDD/ back pain
- Neck pain
- Chronic constipation in cats
- Chronic cough in senior pets
How does it work?
After a complete evaluation, Dr Chesney will discuss the number of treatments recommended to see if acupuncture will be helpful for your cat or dog, typically between 4 and 6 weekly to biweekly appointments. Many pets at the first visit do not realize they will feel better but by the third session, they love it! No sedation is needed and you can feed treats and relax with your pet the entire time.
